We've come to see the value of community in undertaking a rite of passage, and Rites of Passage emphasizes and develops this aspect more than any other group that offers this work to the public. One could say that 6 days of the 9-day Vision Quest program are devoted to building and holding a safe community space where deep inner work can take place, where people can tell their stories and be truly held and received. Many of our staff live or work in community; Mike Bodkin, the Director, has lived in intentional community for almost 20 years. So it's natural that we would want to extend this sense of community, which is so healing, to the period after returning from the field. It's been our experience that the Return from the Vision Quest is often the most difficult part of the program, even (perhaps especially) if the experience has been positive and life-changing. The Old Life has symbolically died, and a New Person born out of the ceremony's natural unfolding. There will be circles held during the final two days of the Quest to focus on the challenges of returning to one's life as this reborn person. At the final circle, everyone is full of light and insight into the journey they've taken and where it must now lead. We believe that the Quest goes on for a full year after returning, but up to now our formal support has ended on the 9th day of the program. Many people are fine with that, but others want more ongoing support to work with the integration of the Vision Quest into their daily lives. Since people come from different states (and countries) to participate, an ongoing in-person group would not be practical, but by offering this Incorporation Support Program online, people in differnet localities can "meet" to share their stories and find support, from each other and from our staff. Program Design The program requires a 6 month commitment. Each month, an experiential assignment will be given, which group members can undertake on their own and then write about on the pages of our website devoted to the Incorporation Program. In addition, there will be an opportunity to discuss other subjects on a Forum restricted to members of the group. There will also be a monthly phone call to a conference call number, at an arranged time, so that everyone can check in, talk about their Incorporation, and share via a phone-based Council process. The program also includes one individual phone consultation with staff during the six month class period. Cost We want to encourage people to try this new program, so we're keeping the cost reasonable: $300 for the six-month class. You must register for the entire class in advance. To regsiter, call or email us ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ), we'll arrange the details. When We anticipate the Incorporation Support program will begin in December, 2009.
